An implant replaces a missing tooth root and all, without touching the teeth either side. It is the most durable solution dentistry currently offers.

When an implant is the right choice
An implant is a titanium screw that replaces the root of the tooth. Once it has healed we fit a crown on it, and the result behaves like your own tooth — you bite on it normally and clean it like the rest.
Its main advantage over a bridge is that the healthy teeth either side do not have to be reduced. The cost is similar to a three-unit bridge, but the neighbouring teeth stay intact.
How the procedure works
- Consultation and X-ray. The image shows how much bone is available and lets us plan the treatment. Both the examination and the X-ray are covered by insurance.
- Placing the implant. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia and usually takes under an hour.
- Healing. The implant needs time to fuse with the bone. During this period a temporary solution can be arranged so you are not left with a gap.
- Fitting the crown. Once healing is complete we make the crown and fit it.
Replacing several teeth or a full arch
When most of the teeth in one arch are missing, they do not have to be replaced one by one. An implant-supported denture anchored on two implants costs CZK 50,000 per arch and solves the most common complaint about conventional dentures — that they will not stay put.

How long before I have the final tooth?
Placing the implant itself usually takes under an hour under local anaesthesia. Healing follows, during which the implant fuses with the bone. The crown is fitted only once healing is complete, so the whole process runs over several months.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, so you feel nothing at the time. Once the anaesthetic wears off the site is tender, much as after an extraction. Local anaesthesia is covered by insurance.
How long does an implant last?
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups an implant lasts for decades. The usual cause of problems is not the implant itself but inflammation of the surrounding gum — which is exactly why check-ups are worth keeping.
Is it worth travelling abroad for cheaper implants?
The price difference is usually smaller than it first appears once you count travel, accommodation and above all follow-up care. An implant needs check-ups and occasional adjustment, and if something goes wrong it is dealt with where it was placed.
Can an implant still be placed if the tooth has been missing for years?
Usually yes, although bone recedes where a tooth has been missing for a long time. We assess from the X-ray whether there is enough. If not, bone sometimes needs to be added, which increases the price.
