A child's first experience at the dentist decides whether they grow into a patient who turns up for check-ups without fuss, or an adult who puts it off for years. So we take our time.

At our practice in Poliklinika Cumpelikova we treat children from their first baby teeth through to adulthood. The clinic is led by MDDr. Faisal Aboud, who treats adults and children alike — so the whole family can go to one place.
Fully covered by Czech public health insurance
Children up to the age of 17.99 receive complete care covered by Czech public health insurance, including root canal treatment. That is not a given — at many practices root canal work on children is billed as an above-standard treatment that parents pay for.
Covered without any surcharge: check-ups, treatment of tooth decay, treatment of baby teeth, X-rays, local anaesthesia and root canal treatment.
The only item not covered by insurance is a children's crown.

Your child's first visit
We treat the first visit as an introduction rather than a procedure. If the condition of the teeth allows it, we do nothing that might frighten your child.
- A look around and a chat. Your child sits in the chair, we check the teeth and explain what each piece of equipment does.
- Assessment. We tell you whether anything needs treating now, or whether it is enough to keep an eye on it.
- Plan and appointment. We agree the next steps with you — and if treatment is needed, we book it as a separate visit.
Parents are welcome to stay. Experience shows, though, that some children cooperate better with the parent a step away. We leave that to you and to how your child reacts.
What helps when a child is frightened
Avoid words like drilling or injection at home, and avoid promising that it will not hurt — children latch onto exactly the word they are supposed to not worry about. Saying the dentist will take a look at your teeth is enough. And do not promise a reward in advance; it turns the visit into something to be survived.
Prevention and baby teeth
Baby teeth are often dismissed on the grounds that they fall out anyway. In fact they hold the space for the adult teeth, and losing them too early still shows ten years later in how the adult teeth line up.
We recommend check-ups twice a year. Decay progresses faster in children than in adults, so six months means something different for them than it does for you.
At home, the simple things work better than anything we can do in the surgery: brush twice a day, thoroughly in the evening, and brush your child's teeth again yourself until they are around eight. Most decay does not come from sweets, but from sugary drinks sipped throughout the day.

Parents' questions
Is my child's treatment covered by Czech public insurance?
Yes. We register and treat children under Czech public health insurance up to the age of 17.99. Almost everything is covered — check-ups, treatment of decay, X-rays and root canal treatment. Only a children's crown is paid for separately.
Up to what age are children covered?
Up to 17.99 years. Until then care is covered in full, including root canal treatment. After the eighteenth birthday the same price list applies as for adults.
Do you treat children of foreigners with commercial insurance?
Please ask us when booking. Cover depends on your specific policy, so we will tell you in advance what is covered and what you would pay for. Bring your insurance documents to the first visit.
At what age should my child first see a dentist?
Ideally within a year of the first tooth appearing, and by around the age of three at the latest. The earlier a dental visit becomes ordinary, the less of an event it is later on.
What if my child is scared and will not cooperate?
We do not push. If your child cannot manage the first visit, we arrange a shorter introductory appointment with no treatment. With children it pays to earn trust the first time, even if that means coming twice.
Does my child need their own insurance card?
Yes, please bring your child's insurance card. At the first visit we also need your contact details as the legal guardian.
